About the Role
As a GIS Trainee for Mission Planning, you'll support the preparation and optimization of scanning trees in cities and parks. You will work closely with our GIS Experts and Project Managers to ensure data collection is efficient, comprehensive, and aligned with project specifications. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their GIS career looking to gain hands-on experience in geospatial planning, data analysis, and real-world applications of mapping technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating and optimizing mission plans based on geographic and logistical constraints.
- Analyze areas of interest using GIS tools to define drivable streets, park paths, and other accessible routes.
- Support the identification and exclusion of restricted, redundant, or irrelevant areas from scanning missions.
- Help with post-mission assessments, comparing actual coverage vs. planned routes.
- Document workflows and suggest improvements for planning efficiency.
Requirements
- Ongoing or recent degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, Urban Planning, or related field.
- Familiarity with QGIS software
- Basic understanding of spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON) and coordinate systems.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a structured approach to problem-solving.
- Good English communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in urban mapping, remote sensing, or 3D data technologies is a plus.
We are looking for candidates who are currently enrolled and have valid student status—available to work 40 hours per week during the summer, with flexible arrangements to be discussed once the university term begins!
